Uno dei più interessanti centri storici della Langa, le vie erte che salgono alla piazza dell’antica Chiesa, con gli oratori barocchi, la torre campanaria, il settecentesco Palazzo dei marchesi Scarampi e l’auditorium Horszowski. Dalla sua storia emerge il drammatico episodio dell’eresia catara che intorno all’anno 1000 si diffuse sotto la protezione della leggendaria Contessa locale; imprigionati e portati a Milano per ordine dell’arcivescovo Ariberto d’Intimiano, i catari di Monforte furono condannati al rogo nel 1028. Monforte è tra i maggiori produttori di vini della Langa: 750 ettari vitati, 122 aziende con proprietà sul territorio comunale, 49 produttori vitivinicoli per una produzione complessiva pari al 17% di tutta la zona del Barolo. Sette sentieri permettono di conoscerne cascine, cappelle campestri, boschi e vigne. E’ sede della Comunità Collinare “Colline delle Langhe e del Barolo”.

One of the most interesting historical Langa’s centres, with its steep street that lead you from the square to the ancient Church, with its baroque oratories, the bell tower, the Scarampi Marquises Palace, the Horszowski auditorium. There is a remarkable and dramatic episode of Monforte’s history, connected to the Catharist heresy which spread itself around the year 1000 thanks to the legendary Countess Berta: imprisoned and sent to Milan by order of the Archbishop Ariberto d’Intimiano, Monforte’s Catharists were sent to the stake in 1028. Monforte is one of the Langa’s main wine producers: 750 hectares of vineyards, 122 wine industries with properties on the communal territory, 49 producers for an overall production which holds the 17% of the whole Barolo’s area. Seven paths will let you discover rustic farms, country chapels, woods and vines. Monforte is the seat of the “Colline delle Langhe e del Barolo” Association.
